Will Filipino challenger Rodel “Batang Mandaue” Mayol(25-3-1-19 KOs) will win over WBO champion Puerto Rico star Ivan “Iron Boy”Calderon (32-0-1-6 KOs) in a title rematch? Their much awaited rematch on September 12, 2009 at Coliseum de Puerto Rico “Jose Miguel Agrelot”. During their last fight, Calderon was bleeding in the sixth round due to sudden head butt by Mayol last June 13 match at the Madison Square Garden, which ended in a technical draw. Fans and relatives in every side were very upset and unsatisfied.

Some boxing analysts predict that their fight will be a different and more exciting than the last time. The Filipino boxer Mayol continues his daily exercise in Puerto Rico. Mayol weighted 118 lbs. last week, 10 lbs. over the limit, but should drop again this week due to massive workout.

Moreover, Mayol will be entering the most difficult stage of training. He trains at the Wild Card Gym of world- renowned coach Freddie Roch and also he spars some Filipino fighters such AJ Banal and WBO minimum weight world champ Donnie Nietes, both from ALA Gym in Cebu, Philippines.

Jose “Clarita” Lopez vs. Marvin “Marvelous” Sonsona boxing fight will happen at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada on September 4, 2009. A very young athlete versus the experienced athlete will be a much awaited match. The left-handed Sonsona is just 19 years old and has had only 13 professional fights (12 KO wins, one win by decision), and he has never been past the fifth round. Lopez, 37, has had 48 fights and he has been the 12-round championship distance nine times.

Iribe is the recent Federation of Boxing Commissions (Fecombox) light flyweight champion and ranked in the top 20 by the IBF.
Brian the "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria has a career record of 25 wins and 2 losses with 15 victories came by the way of knockout, while the challenger Jesus "Azul" Iribe has a 15 wins 5 losses and with 5 knockout.
The boxing event is dubbed as the “Island Assault: Viloria vs Iribe”. Another Filipino pride in boxing Donnie "Ahas" Nietes will put his title on the line when he faces his mexican opponent Manuel Vargas, the interim champion on July 18 in Jalisco Mexico for his third title defense of his WBO minimum weight title.

Nietes with the record of 24-1-3 with 14 by knockouts with his last fight also in Mexico winning it by unanimous decision over Erik Ramirez last February 09, 2009. In his first title defesnse he knockout his opponent Eddie Castro of Mexico on August 28, 2008 at the Waterfront hotel in Cebu City.

I search the video of the prevous fights of his opponent Vargas and one of them is the fight over Rayonata "the stringray" Whitfield . I saw how rugged fighter he was as he bombarded with tons of punches to the head and body and in the last round of the fight he just throwing punches from any directions and angles but Whitfield still manage to escape a closed decision and win the fight.

Currently Nietes is in the WildCard Gym in Los Angeles California together with AJ "Bazooka" Banal who will fight in the undercard of Mayweather-Marquez fight in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

I'm confident that still he can bring home back here in the Philippines the WBO world title belt.

After winning impressively against the WBO champion Ricky Hatton, the question is that who's next for the renowned best fighter in the planet and the pound for pound king in boxing today?

No doubt that no one can beat Manny in his weight the 140 pounds right now! the option for Manny is to move up in weight and fight the bigger names for bigger money like Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr., This past few weeks after the fight of Manny Pacquiao rumors heard that the next opponent of the Pacman will be the winner between the fight of Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr. this coming July. The name of Sugar Shane Mosley is also in the line to fight Pacquiao anytime in any weight after that devastating performance that he saw when Manny beat Hatton. But the top rank president Bob Arum is now negotiating the camp of Puerto Rican Boxer who is formerly with the top rank to be the next opponent of Manny Pacquiao.

With all of this prospect opponent of Manny Pacquiao, I want to see the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao not only on the money but the honor if who really is who the best pound for pound king of boxing. Also the money, if this fight is make to be possible maybe Pacquiao will earn double of what he got in the fight with Hatton. The weight and the size is not that disadvantage for Manny, he is only two inches shorter and eight pounds lighter compare to Mayweather. I don't want Manny to fight either the two Mosley or Cotto, why? Oh! come on Mosley is a fighting at the weight class of 154 pounds his too big for Manny and even he will goes down in weight of 144 pounds still Manny can't handle those punches of Mosley. Just look at what happened to bigger Antonio Margarito he was crashed by the punches of Mosley, I don't want it to happen to Manny. Same as with Cotto, he is bigger stronger and a very clever boxer and if he pursue to fight this two it might be the downfall of his career.

Two of the most well known boxers in the world today will square off on May 2, boxing fans will witness the most exciting, pressure and action pack fights in the sports this year.

What Paquiao will do to win this fight

Manny Paquiao has the better boxing skills of the two fighters, Paquiao shouldn't be eager to brawl with Hatton and trading a face to face punches because that is dangerous for him if he will be caught with a big shot by the Hitman. And if he will do that, maybe he will find himself lying down with the canvass.

Hatton is the much bigger fighter than the two even though that they are fighting at the 140 lbs. limit. While Paquiao was also fough in the higher weight class when he fought with Oscar Dela Hoya and managed to show his speed and carry his power to that level. The mian thing that Paquiao should do inorder to win in this fight is to use his great speed, his boxing skills to outmatched Hatton in the entire fight and keep Hattton out of his range using footworks to avoid to land his big and hard shots.

In all, Paquioa must adjust in his go ahead fighting style to increase and assure his chances of winning the fight.

What Hatton will do to win this fight

In this fight if Hatton will not make Paquiao into brawl, he had a tough night in this match. A fact that Paquiao is the better boxer and way way faster than him. Hatton can land big punch to Paquiao if they stand toe to toe and slug it on.

Paquiao weakness is that he didn't fight well in the ropes like in his matched with Juan Manuel Marquez. So Hatton should cut the ring and bring Manny to the corner, but that's easier to be said than to do againts the crafty fighter like Paquiao.

His best chance to win in this fight is keep coming forward and put pressure throughout the fight. The great news to Hatton is that he doesn't need to changes the way he fight at all, becaue Paquiao is a straight ahead fighter that Hatton likes to fight.

Two days before the Hatton-Paquiao fight I can't wait to watch it if who will gonna win in the most anticipated match this year. And I'm sure that the day of the fight all the Filipino people in the Philippines will stop working and whatever they do just to watch it.

The question in this fight will be Manny's speed, conditioning, stamina and power will be enough and can reign over Hatton? Or Hatton's dirty tactics, size advantage, power will be effective to defeat the king of the ring? We saw Manny in his three previous fights his advantage in speed, power, and boxing ability were the key in him to win. The same as Hatton showing his advantage in his previous fights his brawling tactics keep him winning from his opponents. But Hatton didn't face opponents like Paquiao a very skilled fighter with a lightning speed and throwing a bunch of powerful punches and Paquiao on his part also didn't have an opponent like Ricky Hatton that much faster even that he is bigger, very tough physically and doing unusual boxing tactics. So on your own opinion who will have the advantage on this fight?

Here is my own key to the fight:
(focusing on the physical aspects of both fighters)

The size:
Hatton has the advantage on this matter because he is purely a 140 lbs. fighter or the Junior Welterweight class ever since he started his boxing career and take note he is unbeaten fighting in that weight class while Manny Paquiao started at 106 lbs. moving to 112 lbs. which he capture his first title to 118 lbs. then 122 lbs. going to 130 lbs. and last year surprisingly he moved up to 135 lbs. for one fight and got the title after fighting Oscar Dela Hoya in the 147 lbs. division. Still for me Hattons has the advantage in this aspects.

The Speed:
Hatton in his statements he was always saying that he will be going to be faster than Manny, oh! come on Ricky in your dreams. He is thinking that because he always fighting opponents that much slower than him that why he thought that he is a fast but take a look in the actual fight on how Manny will going to show his like the speed of the light speed to Hatton.

The Power:
I will say that Hatton has a slight advantage on this aspect despite that Manny has the better knockout percentage than Hatton, Paquiao knocking out 36 of his 48 opponents or equivalent to 36% while Hatton has only 32 knockouts in his 45 fights. But most of the knockouts of Paquiao came when he was still fighting in the lower weight division while Hatton knocking out top welterweights name like Jose Luis Castillo and Paulie Malignaggi.

Age and Stamina:
Both fighters are at the same age of 30, I can say that Hatton is exceptional in this area but Manny is supernatural. My observation to this two fighters Hatton from first round to the last is still the one who always pressuring his opponents but Paquiao in all of his fights his stamina is really unbelievable because as the fights goes to distance Paquioa is also getting stronger and stronger, and if how hard he punch in the first round the same he do it on the twelve round.

Yesterday at at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas Nevada - the final press conference of the Hatton-Paquiao showdown titled " The Battle of East and the West " was happened. Everyone expected this fight to be the fight of the year in boxing not only that but also to determined who will be the pound for pound king that Paquaio currently the one who hold this prestigious title in boxing.

In their press conference both Freddie Roch and Floyd Mayweather Sr. still continue their word war. It was started when Mayweather Sr. calling out Manny's trainer Freddie Roach as the Joke Roach and at the end of his statements he call Roach again as Cockroach, which also made Freddie Roach laugh on that trash talking way of Mayweather Sr.

When the fight between Manny and Ricky confirmed, Mayweather Sr., said that Roach fighter is tough but no chance to beat the true pound for pound king Ricky Hatton. He added also that Paquaio is not worth it to be fame because he only beat older fighters like Dela Hoya and Barerra and fighters that are not on the pick of their careers like Diaz and Morales.

However, Freddie Roach returning back by criticizing Mayweather Sr. for not respecting his fighter, Roach said that he is not a good trainer at all. Trainer that always late and passing by burger king, he said that Ricky is a nice guy and wish him will in the fight but Manny is the guy right now he added.

Meanwhile, back to Manny and Ricky both fighters really shows respect from each other, Hatton said in his piece of speech that he know that he is the underdog in this fight and fighting the best pound for pound fighter in the world today. He said that the key is to back him up, put the pressure, use his size and the power advantage.

In Paquiao part that this fight is nothing personal for him, that they are doing they job to give the people a good fight and make them happy and dedicating this fight to the Filipino people hoping him to win in his fight against Ricky Hatton on Saturday. Adding that he will do his best to win to give honor to his country again.

Here is my prediction on the coming Paquiao-Hatton fight in Las Vega, Nevada.

Many people around the world are very excited in the coming fight of Manny Paquiao and Ricky Hatton. Millions of people around the world from Hatton's place in Manchester, England to Paquiao's homeland the Philippines are expecting a bloody war between this two hottest boxing superstars at this moment. As Hatton is known for his brawling style of boxing and keeps going and going through out the fight. While paquiao is almost a complete boxer, the power, the speed, boxing skills and speed all of that is on Manny's caliber.

Here's the way I look and predict the fight will be going to happen.

Round One - more likely first round will be not exciting both fighter will just throwing their jabs and measuring each other until the end of the first round. I will score this round a draw.

Score: Paquiao 10 -10 Hatton

Round Two - same as the round one both fighter's still very careful of their moves in the first minute throwing jabs, in the last minute of this round Manny will throw some of his left and right combinations and hatton will be hit. This round goes to manny.

Score: Paquiao 20 -19 Hatton

Round Three - in this round we will expect that hatton will be the aggressive fighter because he knows that round two is in favor of manny, at the start of the round hatton will throw a lot of punches but it won't hurt manny and miss some of those because of manny's speed in getting away from those punches. I will give this round to hatton.

Score: Paquiao 29 -29 Hatton

Round Four - going to the first minute of this round still hatton throwing a lot of punches and taking manny to the rope his usual tactics, manny will easily manage to get out of that and back to the center of the ring and will out box hatton by throwing accurate punches to the head of hitman. A close round but manny is more accurate in this round compare to hatton, so I will give it ti manny.


Score: Paquiao 39 -38 Hatton

Round five - as the round start you can see now the eagerness in the eyes of hatton, eagerness to land a big shot to manny. He will put pressure on manny by attacking the lower body of manny, manny will drawback a little bit then, he will throw his one two combination that will hit hatton follow by a series of body and head punches that will make hatton down to the canvass...but still hatton manage to goes up in the count of eight. As the referee resume the fight Pacquia pressure him to rope and throwing a lot of hard and devastating punches that hit him so badly and goes down unconcious. With exactly 1 minute and 10 seconds remaining in the round the referee signal that its over, hatton can't fight any more. Yes! our very own Manny knocking out the Manchester pride.

That's how I predicted this fight that Manny will going to knockout Hatton in the closing minute of the fifth round with a bunch of thunderous punches to the head that will make him unconcious.

As I read earlier in one of the articles published by one of the boxing sites the 15 rounds.com, it was stated there that the fight between Bernabe Conception and the Mexican champion Steven Leuvano, for WBO featherweight championship has been postponed due to the injury of the champion. This postponed fight is part of the undercard of Paquiao-Hatton showdown on May 2, at MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Manager of Steven Leuvano told the ESPN.com that Steven Leuvano began to experience pain in his torso while training these past few days. Dunkin said, that Leuvano is a tough guy and trying to continue and working through it. But he couldn't continue because his injury is getting worst.

Top Rank will replace the bout on the televised portion of the card it is co-promoting with Golden Boy. It may turn to junior lightweight titleholder Humberto Soto (47-7-2, 30 KOs), who blew away Antonio Davis in the fourth round to retain his title in his first defense last Saturday night on Top Rank’s “Tijuana Thunder” pay-per-view undercard.

It's a sad news to Bernabe's camp that he's first fight for the world title is postponed. In his last fight in Araneta Coliseum, he really impoved a lot his power, style, patience, and the way he think on the ring. I'am disappointed that the fight is postponed, because on the way I look at him he is very ready to take the crown from Leuvano. If ever the fight with Leuvano will not resume, I hope that he will be given another title fight in different boxing organization.

After laboratory test proved that Antonio Margarito that illegal substances were placed on the hand wrap of Antonio Margarito before he fought and lost to Sugar Shane Mosley in Los Angeles.

Now one of the opponents of Antonio Margarito in his previous fights before he fought Mosley, and Top Rank Superstar Miguel Cotto has come out and said that one year punishment to Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo is not punishment fitting the crime. In that fight, also I watched on it that before Mosley punished the Tijuana Tornado, Mosley's trainer Naazim Richardson spotted the handwrap and blew the whistle.

The Cotto - Margarito fight that I also watched, Margarito was really beaten badly by Antonio Margarito and knockout Cotto in the late round of their fight in Las Vegas, is calling for the Panama Lewis Treatment, a lifetime ban in boxing - for the former world champion Antonio Margarito.

I will agree with Cotto to give Margarito a lifetime ban if the board prove that he was doing this in all of his fights or previous fights. But with Margarito's trainer Capetillo, I disagree to give him that much punishment becuase he's only one of the accesories on that mistake committed by Margarito.

Cotto has also a reason why he is complaining because he has a doubt that those illegal substances placed in the handwrap of Margarito might be also put in their last fight. Cotto last staement was he will going elsewhere after his contract will expire with the Top Rank at the end of 2009. And will do his own promotional company and will self manage his career.

In New York, Manny " The Pacman " Paquiao was voted as the 2008 fighter of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America. After his three wins last year in different division, first by taking the WBC title of Juan Manuel Marquez, another title by defeating WBC champion David Diaz then the last was the impressive win over the legend Oscar De la Hoya in welterweight division.

Joe Calzaghe of England voted as the runner up, and also voted as manager of the year for guiding hs own career. This undefeated former super middle weight champion recently retired.

Also, Paquiao's trainer Coach Freddie Roach voted as the trainer of the year as he was one of the key factors in winning last year. The fight of the year was given to the matched of the superbantamweights Israel Vasquez and Rafael Marquez, which Israel Vazquez won that fight.

The Awards wil be presented at the annual BWWA dinner June 12 in New York.
