In New York, Manny " The Pacman " Paquiao was voted as the 2008 fighter of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America. After his three wins last year in different division, first by taking the WBC title of Juan Manuel Marquez, another title by defeating WBC champion David Diaz then the last was the impressive win over the legend Oscar De la Hoya in welterweight division.Joe Calzaghe of England voted as the runner up, and also voted as manager of the year for guiding hs own career. This undefeated former super middle weight champion recently retired.
Also, Paquiao's trainer Coach Freddie Roach voted as the trainer of the year as he was one of the key factors in winning last year. The fight of the year was given to the matched of the superbantamweights Israel Vasquez and Rafael Marquez, which Israel Vazquez won that fight.
The Awards wil be presented at the annual BWWA dinner June 12 in New York.
